Dancer, curator, and choreographer Endalyn Taylor and visual artist Patrick Earl Hammie are collaborating with five cross-generational ballerinas toward a multi media performance and discussion entitled the Counterpoint Project. The project will explore, discuss, and reframe the ongoing cultural and critical contributions of black ballerinas in dance and visual culture. The title Counterpoint is a play on the ballet term pointe, which is a position on the extreme tips of the toe, and references an element that is juxtaposed and contrasted with another. Our appeal to the Campus Research Board is for support with the development and implementation of the project, which will include video and audio interviews, video and audio recordings of the live performance and symposium, production of promotional graphics, artists fees, rental fees, travel costs, and the production of a website that will act as a hub for information, forum for discourse, and an archive of the event.
